Teaching
"Patience to Teach "
by Wes Fessler
I don't know any man more prepared for a trial,
than a man who is taught with a comforting smile.
It is stunning to see what a person can do
when he's taught to distinguish what's false from what's true.
It is hard to do well when you're eager to learn,
but no one has the patience to teach in return.
We all started as children who wanted to know,
asking, "what, why, and how," everywhere we would go.
And how wounded we felt when we heard someone say
"I am busy right now. Will you please go away?"
What a blow to a mind reaching out for advice!
Just a five second answer might even suffice.
We are children at heart, reaching out for the truth.
And we still need to learn, as we did in our youth.
We are never too old to be taught something new.
When we teach one another, we learn something too.
How much greater we are when we're willing to share.
Are we really too busy to show that we care?
To teach others may not seem important to do,
but it will when the one with the question is you.
