There are those who question the value of dreams—who call them a waste of time that could be spent on more worthwhile things. There are some who believe that dreams are but random thoughts of a subconscious mind that cross into consciousness to disrupt the sensibilities of reason and rationality. Such disdainful and derogatory opinions often serve to destroy visionary expressions of the mind, putting them to shameful rest; but in some cases such contemptuous mockery serves as the core motivation and indomitable determination of dreamers to prove that their dreams are not only worthwhile, but among the most imperative of life’s aspirations.

Unrelenting Effort
There are some who believe unceasingly in their dreams in spite of every derisive attempt by others to insult and discredit them. There are those who give all that they have in the quests of their dreams, ultimately to fail to realize them; and there are the few who through all adversity and improbability, prevail in achieving the fulfillment of their dreams. The determined and valiant who believe in their dreams and never give up on them, prove that their aspirations are of tremendous worth. It is the true and stalwart dreamers who demonstrate that some dreams are worth fighting for, whether to the attainment of triumphant success, or even to results that fall short of victory. For those who truly believe in dreams, the causes transcend the final outcomes. While it is always the preeminent goal to make a dream come true, there is no greater reward than that which is achieved through giving one’s most determined and unrelenting effort. Though the realization of a dream itself may seem to be the only measure of success, those who commit their souls to their dreams, and persevere through unspeakable challenges, discover that success is as much about how much one is willing to sacrifice for a dream, as it is about seeing it come true.
 
Something Better
There will always be skeptics who fail to see the value of dreams, and who cling to tangible goals and common aspirations. There will always be those who claim that the paths of dreams are dead-end roads that deplete us of energy and exhaust us of the ability to live in reality. To these points there are elements of validity, for the pursuit of dreams can be difficult and tiresome beyond description, but to those who are committed to their dreams, there is always the strength to press on, and the ability to carve paths where roads meet their ends. When your dreams seem too big and too difficult to accomplish, you should always remember that a dream is never to big if it fits in your heart.

A Worthwhile Cause
There is no question that dreams can be difficult and at times, almost impossible to achieve. Difficulty is a primary reason that many people are doubtful about the value of pursuing dreams. Difficulty serves as a reason to deter others from taking interest in their dreams, and as justification to mock and ridicule them for considering the possibility. Those who believe in dreams, however, see something of greater value in them that overrides the fears and difficulties that are ascribed to them. The merit of a dream’s cause takes precedence over the perceived challenges, and the purpose of the dream is deemed to be worthwhile. It is at this moment, when a dreamer first believes that a dream can come true, and more importantly, that there is a cause that is worthy of the very best effort that may be required to see it through.

Personal Significance
There will always be those who will fail to understand the dreamer and the motivations that spur such ceaseless devotion to seemingly reckless and foolish ambitions; but when a dream is born, and its cause is accepted, there emerges a self-sustaining inferno of wondrous zeal and passion that is not easily extinguished. A connection is made in the quest of a dream that provides a vision of focus and clarity—a noble purpose of the deepest personal significance to strive for with the fullest investment of heart and soul. With devotion to cause and with hope to feed the fire, the dreamer raises a flame to light the way in the attempt to eliminate the darkness that blinds the eyes of the contentious non-believers. While the cause of the dream stands worthy in its own right, a secondary set of motivations is also the subject of continual desire…to prove the doubters wrong, to successfully endure the unimaginable, and to truly give all that is required to be given in the cause.

The Challenge
Every dream is different—unique and challenging in its own way. For every dream there will be detractors who will say that it can’t be accomplished and that it is a waste of time to consider such nonsense. For every dream, there will be burdens to bear, sacrifices to be made, and reasons to quit. The reasons to quit will nearly always outnumber the reasons to carry on, and this is why so many give up on their dreams. For the dreamer whose light grows dim, and who is faced with innumerable challenges, there is need to remember that although the reasons to quit may outnumber the reasons to persevere, they can never outweigh the importance of a dream, as long as the dreamer continues to believe. There is no one who can force a dreamer to quit, but the dreamer alone.

Better than Before
There are always those who question the value of dreams, and who call them a waste of time, but how sad would life be if we were unable to dream? A dream is a connection to something truly great—something worth believing in, whether we are able to achieve it, or not. A dream is something to invest ourselves in—something that challenges us to become better than before. A dream is worth fighting for with all of our hearts and souls, and in this we learn the value of excellence, which gives us the greatest chance of making our dreams come true. While there will always be those who are fearful of dreams and the challenges they present to our lives, there is no truer way to build character in ourselves than to dedicate our hearts to the pursuit of worthwhile dreams. The ability to dream is the ability to discover our better selves, but the ability to believe in a dream is the ability to become our best.
