The Great World Pie
Families, like pies, are only as delicious as their ingredients. We
should all seek the best ingredients that make our pies as good as they can be. In the
grand scheme of things we are a world family composed of nations, governments,
populations, and individuals. We are, all of us, the ingredients that make up the great
world pie.
A Great Pie and How it is Made
The ability to bake a delicious pie depends on two important
perceptions: a knowledge of what a great pie is, and an understanding of how to produce
the best ingredients. If either of these elements is missing, one can be certain that the
pie will not turn out as it should. As a world we must first understand that we are one
family. Our second duty is to determine how good a family we will be.
Our world has gone long enough without a
knowledge of what a great pie is, or an understanding of how to produce the best
ingredients. We have become one enormous dysfunctional family comprised of substandard
individuals. We have become so competitive and withdrawn from one another that we have
completely lost sight of what a good family is, or how to produce members that compose
such a good family. We have abandoned the recipe and forgotten everything that makes a
delicious pie.
The Right Ingredients
As a world, as a nation, and as individuals it is time that we
remember what a good pie is and how one is made. We can no longer afford to point fingers
at one another about the quality of our pie or, or to make excuses about why we
don’t have the right ingredients. The time has come for each of us to take
responsibility for our ineptness and to build individual character to a caliber worthy of
a great family.
To eliminate any doubt about what a great pie
is, or how one is made, it is time for the world to turn to a set of common values.
Without prejudice to race, religion, or political preference, everyone must unite in the
values that are common to humankind. It is time for the world to grow up and for all of
us to become better people. Until we set aside our differences to focus on what is common
in our family, everyone will suffer.
All Great Families Are Built with Love
A great family and great family members are built with love. Many
will dismiss such a notion as naïve and juvenile, but I say again that all great
families are built with love. Is it true that all of the world’s problems can be
solved by something so simple? Is it true that all of the fear, aggression, animosity,
and hatred of the world can be solved by one simple concept? I will say it again. All
great families are built with love.
So what is love that it can build great individuals and families? Love is not a simple
concept, but a collection of values that bring humanity to humankind. The love that is
needed to bring this world family together is also the same set of values that make
individuals as good as they can be. Love as the world needs it is dependent on the

This list of values should be taped on the mirror of every individual
in every nation. It should be a guide that we return to on a weekly, or even daily basis
to remind us of what it takes to produce the best ingredients for the world’s great
pie. We should all review this list in front of the mirror to see what we are doing well
and what we can improve. These values should be treasured by all humankind; regardless of
race, creed, religion, or gender. These are the values of love, and the essential
components of good families and nations. These are the delicious ingredients that make
delicious pies.
There is no need to deny our religious,
political, or social beliefs to enjoy the rich rewards of this great pie. We are all
entitled to the benefits of every outlet that makes us unique and distinguishable. We
must not, however, lose sight of the most basic human values that we all must share as a
world family.
Everyone Can Make a Difference
The choice is ours. Will we embrace the challenge of becoming a
greater humanity by living by the values of love, or will we continue to isolate
ourselves and deny ourselves of all human beauty? Will we continue to deplete the
resources of our world and destroy life by every known method, or will we seek out a
cooperative path to a greater good? Although it may seem that you can’t make a
difference in a world of bureaucracy and divisiveness, every single person in every
single nation can make a difference in the world’s family by living with
love.
