Kindness
Every Day Fulfilled
|
November 29 , 2010 |
Kindness is a caring thought for another that is set into action through any verbal or physical gesture of goodwill. Kindness is thoughtfulness that shows others our consideration for them. Kindness is courtesy for others to treat them with honor and respect. Kindness is a gift that we intend to give freely to others, and yet for which we also commonly receive unexpected rewards in return. The simplest kindness is the difference between a day fulfilled and a day wasted.
Giving is Getting
Kindness is a tool that helps us to think beyond ourselves. Life throws challenges at us every day, and one of those challenges is taking on our own issues and still remembering to think of others. One of the wonderful things about kindness is that the more we share it with others, the better we feel inside. When it comes to kindness, giving truly is receiving. While the primary intentions of kindness should be to make others happy, the rewards are always returned to us in making us happier too. On days when we are feeling down or frustrated, there is good reason to contemplate whether there is some kindness that we can do for others that will make them happier and also lift our own spirits.
Making Time for Kindness
From time to time it is necessary to pause from the high-velocity pace of life to reflect on our interactions with others, and to consider whether kindness is a part of our daily routines. Nearly everyone holds a special place in the heart for kindness, but in the rush of everyday business, kindness can easily give way to stress, frustration, and downright unkind behavior. While most of us go about our daily activities with the best of intentions, we are all susceptible to distractions in life that undermine our most honorable intentions. It is a good goal to seek to carry out at least one act of kindness for someone every day. When we are unable to accomplish this goal, we can be certain that it is time to pause and reaffirm the place that kindness holds among our priorities.
Little Acts of Kindness
It doesn’t take a lot of work to be kind. Kindness can be found in the most effortless of actions, while eliciting the same warm feelings of appreciation that many grand favors may deliver. Kindness can exist in a million things or more, but the very best kindnesses of all are those in which we see opportunities to make people happy or to lift their heavy spirits. Kindness can be found in offering compliments, through the performance of charitable acts, or by offering support to someone. Listening attentively, being a friend, and even giving someone a smile are small acts of kindness that are of immeasurable worth to others. Kindness is about being creative and seeing a need or opportunity to make a day better for someone. Little acts of kindness can make big differences in the lives of others, and such little acts in turn help us by the same token.
A World in Need of Kindness
The world is a place in dire need of kindness. There are people who are struggling in ways that often go without notice and that cause people to suffer, to grieve, and to long for relief. It is common to hear the phrase “Everyone has problems,” as though the statement justifies the hardships and difficulties that people encounter. It is true that everyone has problems…even we ourselves have challenges that we must face every day, but that does not mean that we should stand by and do nothing as people suffer. Kindness is easy, and the least we can do for others. Kindness is something the whole world can share together.
There is every reason to be kind to others, and there is no reason at all to be unkind. We are all on this world together for the short time that we live, and we can easily find it within ourselves to be a little more patient, a little more understanding, and a little bit kinder to others. There are people who we can help right now to have better days and real reasons for hope and optimism by simply offering the small kindnesses of which we are capable. We can make the world better for others and for ourselves by simply caring enough to be kind. Let us never forget as we awaken each day that the simplest kindness is the difference between a day fulfilled and a day wasted.
